Today I am promoting a friend’s blog called Battle for Hong Kong.

Written by Philip Cracknell, an ex-colleague and an accomplished historian, it does what it says on the tin. These are mainly human interest stories as Philip is keeping the best for a book. His research is meticulous and fascinating especially to those of us who live here.
I hope you can find time to visit and see the breadth and depth of his work.
Thank you.
Great read for history buffs and exceptional information to be garnered here. Hong Kong has always be a curiosity for me.
The microcosm tells us much about the “big picture” of history …. every man has his story, but some are more compelling than others …. Officer Matches’s war and post-war story encapsulates a greater experience of the times in which he lived …. Nicely written and lavishly illustrated ….Serves as a primary source for historians.
Thank you, Eb. I’m sure Philip will be gratified at your sentiments. I hope the putative book comes to fruition.
There’s a lot to read, but I’ve bookmarked it to go back this evening.
