You’ve hit the nail on the head here! Quintessential indeed. I particularly love the one of the couple on the bench. I wonder what they are thinking about? Maybe he’s just asked her whether she wants an ice lolly? Somehow I don’t think so.
That is a nice thought. He had actually just suggested a threesome with the lady in the next photograph. His wife replied that, “You can’t play Bridge with just three people, Darling?” and he looked around for a bit and said, “No of course not, what was I thinking? It’s gone now.” and then he fell asleep again. A quintessential British summer 🙂
Wonderful relaxing pictures of the English knowing how to slow down and enjoy the quiet of nature. The photo of the elderly couple napping in the sun is one for the books. I have yet to see folks here enjoy the sun and leisure time in this manner. Maybe I have not been in the right places but everything seems hurried where I live. I enjoyed these photos very much seeing how other folks have a good time in each other’s company.
Great shots. Illustrates brilliantly the British determination to sit out there what ever the weather ready to grab the sun as it happens, and have as much fun as is possible! Love ’em all. Beautiful setting.
Looks like paradise to me.

Excellent! I like your smutty take on it – I shall be MUCH bolder next time. Whatever was I thinking of mentioning ice lollies – how prudish! 😉
Smut is always welcome here, Lottie
Brag?
Yep, lush and overcast. That’s our summer!
You captured it well, Andrew. Summer at its most laid-back, waiting and eating best!
Great summer coming up don’t,t worry about cricket. Life in Bali is a struggle with tablets and WiFi. Beautiful weather. Having a rice time.
And England are behind in the Cricket, too – what could be more quintessential than that ?

Thanks Gill. The gardens were superb and we met some charming people.
Looks like a nice place for a game of quoits. Incoming!!!!
Seriously, it seems a lovely place for a few relaxing hours in the summertime. Even a nap, it seems. Very well coiffed.
What lush flowers. Really admiring someone’s green fingers.
Mottos font gardens Denise. NatTrust property. Beautiful.
