Sunbathing bottom up – NSFW?

This squirrel stayed in this position on a tree in our garden for about 20 minutes and I can only conclude that it was sunbathing – bottom up.SquirrelOnce it realised it had been spotted by the squirrelazzi it bolted. I found it looking rather shame-faced in the tree canopy.Squirrel2Can a squirrel blush?

A new addition to the visitor list this evening as a rather grey looking fox loped across the lawn and into the copse at the back of the house. Sadly for Mr. Fox we don’t keep chickens but lepidoptera beware.

  1. Yours looked like he was blushing, but sadly ours have no shame at all. A couple of weeks ago, a young one decided to reach the little window tray bird-feeder. He spent a long time trying to reach it from every part of the frame, then sat on the ledge glaring at me. Finally he leapt onto the (empty) tray and the whole thing came crashing down. He was back on the ledge a few minutes later.

  2. Beware of the fox. He or she will be into the squirrel, no worries. Are they regarded as pest in UK? I love the squirrel, teaching us to be frugal, save for a rainy day of which the UK is well endowed with.

  3. The squirrel looks very well fed. Do you have bird feeders out? The squirrels get my bird seed and lots of it. I stop feeding the birds for weeks at a time just so that I don’t go broke buying bird seed.

The pics are great. The flattened one on the tree trunk is real cute. I see the squirrels here doing the same thing.

  4. Most likely Mr. S-quire was enjoying the sensation of having all one’s blood in one’s head. Quite exhilarating if one does not pass out. Could you hear? Possibly it was in mid-chant.

  5. Is your squirrel related to the one in our back yard? We have one that is ALWAYS upside down, and seems to watch the ground and then race backwards up the tree, watching the dogs on the ground! Great picture.

I'd be delighted to hear what you think
