Yesterday evening I was getting the trap ready and noticed a plant that appeared to have sprung up quite suddenly. Dactylorhiza fuchsiiAfter a little research I believe this is Dactylorhiza fuchsii, Common Spotted Orchid. The benefits of not mowing everything to a bowling green level.

  1. Good for you, Andrew. One never knows what might pop up if the lawn is left alone…and also untreated. Although nothing as splendid as an orchid grows in my yard, I do get a few beauties. My neighbor, on the other hand, has his lawn treated and it is nothing but a boring monoculture of two inch talk single blades of green.
It may be a common spotted but still a wonderful orchid and uncommonly beautiful.

  2. A nice reward of a pretty little orchid derived from not keeping an immaculate lawn. A yard that is on the wild side reaps many more benefits than one that is sprayed and mowed.

I'd be delighted to hear what you think
